Dream Report

Memorable bit from last night’s dreams: Somebody told me they could no longer respect Neil Gaiman or enjoy his work ever since they found out he didn’t like the licensed Tolkien sequels with a noir theme. I remember thinking “well, I know Neil has no problem with, say, fanfic, so I’m guessing any issue he has is with trying to apply noir themes to the Tolkien universe.” I’m kind of with dream!Gaiman on this one.

What an odd thing to lose respect over. One would think it would be something more earth-shattering. I am still tripping on him writing a Babylon 5 episode. I recently picked up a copy of Ultimate Hitchhikers for a friend and almost forgot Gaiman had written "Don't Panic" about the series so very many years ago. My sweetheart said, "That's right. That was how I first heard about Gaiman was the Hitchhikers Guide book!"

Aye. I noticed that again as I was typing and I thought, "Well, it's even odd for a dream." And at the same time I hear similar dismissals of people in physical space, so it reminded me of those examples, too. Lots of us seem to be becoming big blobs of emotion from too much stimuli.

That is pretty cool though.
